Original price was: $5,580.00.Current price is: $5,180.00.

Frey EX Bikes are in the Ultra class of the Voyage series.  It is the first FREY bike model built for enduro racing.  As a premium series at Frey, Voyager combines the technical capability of downhill and uphill with the endurance of a trail ride. It is stacked with advanced tech that packs everything we know about racing efficiency, suspension, and durability. Moreover, Voyager is a versatile electric bike series that meets the needs of players for outdoor exploration: beastly power and long-range power.

The FREY EX electric mountain bike is here. You might not know it by looking at it, but this EMTB is packing more power than almost any other e-bike and has dual suspension to manage the most technical terrain.

In an attempt to satisfy hardcore and power-hungry customers, Frey opted for the most powerful of Bafang motors known as Bafang Ultra or Ultra Max as well as improved suspension geometry and 180mm fork at the front. Frey has re-designed the frame and rear suspension. With the optional dual battery system, it should appeal to those looking for maximum range with 1344Wh on tap.

The Frey EX is available with a choice of three different configurations – Basic, Advanced, and Pro.

FREY’s e-bikes aren’t just powerful, they’re packing some of the best mountain bike components in the industry.

Despite offering up to 1.5kW of peak power, the Frey EX isn’t hard to ride, instead, it’s addictive. The Bafang mid-drive motor is well known for its power. It can be a bit surprising for new riders, but you adjust to the power and the 160Nm of torque quickly which makes the less trained rider look rapid.

Thanks to the riding position, its raw power, and the optional second battery, the Frey EX Advanced will get you to the top of the highest and steepest tracks, making it an excellent choice for adventurers.  On open trails, it’s a great all-rounder with handling that is balanced and stable.

FREY EX Pro review: A 1.5 kW full-suspension electric mountain bike on steroids

There are two things that FREY doesn’t mess around with: quality and power and nowhere is that more evident than in the FREY EX Pro electric mountain bike.

FREY EX Pro: Insanity in e-bike form

I almost don’t know where to begin with this bike.

The suspension is phenomenal. On the street, you can hit curbs and feel like you’re riding around on your own private cloud. On the dirt you can take on logs and rock stairs with damping that feels like you’re using a cheat code.

And then there’s the power. Oh, goodness… the power! The muscle found in the FREY EX Pro is incredible. Having 1.5 kW of power and 160 Nm of torque at your fingertips will send chills down your spine. The bike is so powerful that I actually rarely open it up all the way.

For most technical riding and trails, I actually keep it in Eco mode instead of Sport mode and use mostly pedal assist, which works great with the built-in torque sensor in the Bafang Ultra motor. But when I want to go fast, especially when I’m on the street, I’ll put it in Sport mode and lay into that throttle. Doing so can rocket me up to around 36 or 37 mph (nearly 60 km/h) in a jiffy.

Obviously, that’s faster than normal e-bikes, and you have to be aware of what your local regulations are. And I don’t ride that fast often. But there are 40 mph (64 km/h) roads between me and my local trails, and so having the ability to ride fast on the road and take the lane instead of pedaling a big, slow mountain bike on the shoulder is a big safety factor for me.

Then there’s the dual battery system on the FREY EX Pro, which is really a thing of beauty. Riding around fast and laying into that 1.5 kW motor would drain a typical e-bike battery quickly. But the FREY EX Pro has room for two batteries — one in the down tube and the other riding piggyback on top of the first.

That allows me to use a bunch of power on the way to my favorite riding locations, get a whole afternoon of riding in, and still have juice left for the ride home.

Off-road e-biking heaven

While the FREY EX Pro works great on the street (and feels like a light electric motorcycle), the bike is most at home in the dirt.

FREY builds competition-level electric mountain bikes. I know because I’ve visited their factory and tested nearly all of their bikes. I’ve seen riders take these bikes 10 feet (3 meters) in the air repeatedly and safely. These aren’t department store e-bikes, these are true, high-quality electric mountain bikes.
